While dealing with the same number of closures of their stores as Amazon is opening more and more bookstores, Barnes & Noble has come up with a new tactic: scaling down.
Instead of continuing to deal with their massive stores that are mostly empty, the idea is that the new, smaller stores will be more efficient and offer a more focused inventory of books, games, and toys.
What they are definitely not getting rid of is their new restaurants and their cafes as they have proven successful in drawing customers, and provide something that people cannot just simply order off online from Amazon.
Barnes & Noble just may be banking the old adage “less is more” will be their savior.
