About
Strauss Consultants, Inc. is an independent group that works with small publishers in the U.S. and abroad to help maximize their sales potential and distribution needs. We have expanded our services to include authors who are looking to find a broader distribution and an online presence. We have an extensive history in the U.S. book market with experience in sales, marketing and publicity.
Founded in 1991 by Karen Strauss, Strauss Consultants Inc. was originally conceived to service small publishers who needed representation into the large chain and wholesaler book accounts around the country. In the ensuing years the group enlarged their account base to include specialty wholesalers and retailers. Due to changes in the market, and the rise of print on demand, our new services reflect the current more dynamic landscape.
Karen Strauss
Karen Strauss has worked in book publishing since 1981, when she started at Bantam Books as a senior publicist. She then moved on to The Free Press division of Macmillan (now Simon and Schuster) to become its Director of Trade Marketing. She directed and managed marketing campaigns for what would become the leading publisher of social science and political books.
In 1988 Karen joined Crown Publishing as Sales Manager where she directed a sales force of 20 reps while also selling national accounts.
Before starting her own company, she worked as National Sales Manager at Avon Books where she managed 17 in-house field reps and two key account managers. And finally in 1991 Strauss Consultants, Inc. was founded.
